Helen Hunt directs, produces, stars and co-scripts this bittersweet, intelligent comedy about a kindergarten teacher whose life is turned upside-down when her husband leaves (Matthew Broderick), her adoptive mother dies, and her birth mother (Bette Midler) re-enters her life. 

Forget that "As Good as It Gets" won Hunt an Oscar. She's eons better and more realistic in this one, delivering a marvelous performance as the film’s lead, April Epner -- a gaunt, worried woman worn down by life but unwilling to give up.
