The Skagit Human Rights Festival 2012 presents Defending Water

This evening the SHRF 2012 screens the award-winning documentary TAPPED, a behind-the-scenes and unflinching examination about the big business of bottled water that seeks to privatize and sell back the one resource that ought never become a commodity: Our water.

TAPPED examines the role of the bottled water industry and its effects on our health, climate change, pollution and reliance on oil. The documentary presents overwhelming evidence which will change the way anyone thinks about bottled and municipal water.

Anacortes signed a contract with Tethys Enterprises, Inc., a capital venture company, to build a one-million-square-foot bottled water/beverage and food manufacturing plant that may be assigned to another party as of Jan. 1, 2013. The contract entitles Tethys up to five million gallons of water per day through 2040 with two, five-year extensions through 2050.

Defending Water in the Skagit River Basin and The Alliance for Democracy will host the documentary.
