In celebration of Women's History Month, join us at the Lincoln Theatre to watch three films based on the real-life stories of women getting things done! It's Women's March!

March 12: Erin Brockovich

Erin Brockovich (Julia Roberts) is a woman in a tight spot -- unemployed, raising a child as a single mother, and facing mounting bills. Following a car accident, Erin insists that her reticent attorney Ed Masry (Albert Finney) hire her at his law firm, successfully landing a job on boldness alone.

When Erin stumbles upon some medical records placed in real estate files, she convinces Ed to allow her to investigate -- revealing a cover-up involving contaminated water in a local community which is causing devastating illnesses among its residents. Facing roadblocks at every turn, she brings her considerable tenacity to bear, refusing to back down even as the scope of the case becomes clear.

Directed by Steven Soderbergh

Starring Julie Roberts, Albert Finney, Aaron Eckhart

United States | English | 2000 | Drama, Biopic | 131 minutes | R

March 19: Frida

Frida is the true story of Frida Kahlo (Salma Hayek), a painter who channeled the pain of a crippling injury and her tempestuous marriage into her work, and in the process became arguably the most acclaimed artist in Mexican history.

Director Julie Taymor (Across the Universe), a Broadway veteran, is known for filling the stage screen with color and passion, and in Frida finds a subject worthy of her striking visual style. Along with an Oscar nomination for Hayek, the film was nominated for both Art Direction and Costumes, as well as winning Best Score and Best Song.

Directed by Julie Taymor

Starring Salma Hayek, Alfred Molina, Geoffrey Rush, Ashley Judd, Antonio Banderas, Ed Norton

United States | English | 2002 | Drama, Romance, Biopic | 123 minutes | R

March 26: A League of Their Own

A League of Their Own takes place during World War II, as the war efforts pull young, athletic men away from America's favorite pastime. To fill the gap for sports fans, a professional all-female baseball league is founded in the Midwest.

Joining up, competitive sisters Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis) and Kit Keller (Lori Petty) spar with each other -- as well as with their grumpy has-been coach Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks) -- on their way to fame. Madonna and Rosie O'Donnell round out the team.

Based (loosely) on actual events, director Penny Marshall (Big) hits a home run with a crowd-pleasing combo of a heartfelt story and winning performances!

Directed by Penny Marshall

Starring Geena Davis, Tom Hanks, Madonna, Lori Petty, Jon Lovitz

United States | English | 1992 | Comedy, Drama, Sports | 123 minutes | PG
