Welcome to the Renaissance!

Skagit Valley College Music Department Presents Something Rotten! -- the Tony Award-winning smash created by the co-director of The Book of Mormon and the producers of Avenue Q.

In the year 1595, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of the rock-star "Bard" -- William Shakespeare. Desperate to find success, Nick gets help from a soothsayer, Nostradamus, who foretells a theatrical future with singing, dancing and acting at the same time...called a "musical."

The irreverent meta-antics follow Nostradamus, Nick, and Nigel's shaky progress creating the next big hit, Omelette: The Musical. Unfortunately, things don't quite go to plan, especially when a disguised Shakespeare begins poking his nose into Omelette and stealing Nigel’s best lines.

This gloriously wacky musical premiered at the St. James Theatre on April 22, 2015, where it played for 708 performances. The Renaissance found favor with audiences and critics alike, garnering ten Tony nominations (including Best Musical) and winning Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Christian Borle's portrayal of Shakespeare.

Book by John O'Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick; music and lyrics by Karey Kirkpatrick and Wayne Kirkpatrick.
