Join us in October (three Tuesdays and a Friday!) for our new film series: It's a John Carpenter Thing: Four Films by the Master of Horror.

It's a John Carpenter Thing: where safety is an illusion and horror creeps across the lines meant to protect us. Fog creeps into locked homes, cars turn on their drivers, the people you're closest to may not be human, and the suburbs can't keep out the boogeyman.

Over the course of four of his early films, director John Carpenter reminds us that every boundary can be broken, and no barrier can hold back the nightmares forever.

October 7: The Fog

A coastal town's centennial celebration turns deadly when a ghostly mist brings the dead back to shore. Carpenter reminds us that history is never buried, and that the veil that hides the past is easily lifted.

Directed by John Carpenter

Starring Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis, Janet Leigh, John Houseman

United States | English | 1980 | Horror | 89 minutes | R

October 14: Christine

High school obsession takes a deadly turn when a shy teen falls under the spell of a '58 Plymouth Fury with a jealous mind and murderous will of its own. The border separating machine and master crumbles under Carpenter's watch.

Based on the novel by Stephen King.

Directed by John Carpenter

Starring Keith Gordon, John Stockwell, Alexandra Paul, Harry Dean Stanton

United States | English | 1983 | Horror | 110 minutes | R

October 17: The Thing

In the isolation of Antarctica, an alien lifeform infiltrates a research station; as it assumes the shape of its victims, it quickly becomes apparent that no one can be trusted. The line between friend and foe, human and monster, is obliterated in the snow.

Directed by John Carpenter

Starring Kurt Russell, Keith David, Wilford Brimley

United States | English | 1982 | Horror | 109 minutes | R

October 28: Halloween

On a quiet October night, Michael Myers slips past locked doors and suburban comfort to stalk the streets of Haddonfield. Carpenter strips away the illusion that home is a safe place to hide.

Directed by John Carpenter

Starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasence

United States | English | 1978 | Horror | 91 minutes | R
