Gerald Dickens, the great-great grandson of author Charles Dickens, presents a varied and entertaining look at the life of Charles Dickens.
Inspired by the Royal Shakespeare Company’s 8-hour of Nicholas Nickleby, Gerald’s version packs the plot into just 1 hour. Travelling with Nicholas across the country we meet some of Charles Dickens’ greatest characters: Wackford Squeers, Smike, Vincent Crummles, Newman Noggs, Sir Mulberry Hawk and many others. Nicholas Nickleby shows Charles Dickens off to his theatrical best.
In 1993, Gerald Dickens created his first one-man show, a theatrical performance of A Christmas Carol, inspired by Charles’s own energetic readings of the 1860s.
A fascination with the life and works of his subject led Gerald to write and direct further shows, including Sketches by Boz and Mr. Dickens is Coming!
Gerald regularly performs in major theaters and arts centers as well as at hotels and stately homes. He has appeared at several arts and literary festivals in the UK and has been entertaining cruise ship passengers worldwide since 2007.
