Join us on April Fools' Day for a feature film from the self-proclaimed "The Great Man" -- it's W.C. Fields in The Bank Dick!
Arguably his best film, The Bank Dick sees the alcoholic, misanthropic Egbert Sousé (portrayed by the alcoholic, misanthropic Fields) stumble his way into a job as a detective for a bank (after a brief foray as a substitute film director).
Once employed, he falls in with con man J. Frothingham Waterbury (Russell Hicks) and thinks he's got it made -- until he runs afoul of by-the-books Inspector Snoopington (Franklin Pangborn).
The film will be preceded by a short subject as well as an introduction by Mount Vernon raconteur Don Wick.
"For anyone who simply likes to laugh at the reckless manities of an inspired buffoon, we recommend The Bank Dick. It's great fun." —Bosley Crowther, The New York Times (1940)
"Totally ramshackle and marvellous." —Time Out (2006)
