October 8: House
A Japanese schoolgirl named "Gorgeous" visits her aunt's remote estate, with six of her classmates in tow. The house soon reveals itself to be possessed by a malevolent spirit, bent on devouring the girls one by one. And watch out for the cat!
Words cannot describe how deeply bonkers this film is. Populated with mostly non-professional actors and packed with wildly psychedelic special effects on a shoestring budget, House remained mostly unknown in the United States for over thirty years, before finally gaining a theatrical release in 2009 -- eventually finding itself firmly established as a cult classic.
"Too absurd to be genuinely terrifying, yet too nightmarish to be merely comic, House seems like it was beamed to Earth from another planet." —Carrie Rickey, Philadelphia Enquirer
