PART OF A LINCOLN FILM SERIES: WOMEN'S MARCH
In celebration of Women's History Month, join us at the Lincoln Theatre to watch three films based on the real-life stories of women getting things done! It's Women's March!
Frida is the true story of Frida Kahlo (Salma Hayek), a painter who channeled the pain of a crippling injury and her tempestuous marriage into her work, and in the process became arguably the most acclaimed artist in Mexican history.
Director Julie Taymor (Across the Universe), a Broadway veteran, is known for filling the stage screen with color and passion, and in Frida finds a subject worthy of her striking visual style. Along with an Oscar nomination for Hayek, the film was nominated for both Art Direction and Costumes, as well as winning Best Score and Best Song.
"Smart, willful, and perverse, this Frida is nobody's servant, and the tiny Hayek plays her with head held high." —David Denby, New Yorker
"Ms. Taymor gets magnificent performances from Ms. Hayek as Frida and Alfred Molina as the oversexed Diego Rivera." —Andrew Sarris, Observer
