The Ruth Moody Band featuring
Ruth Moody
of The Wailin’ Jennys
Presented by Tin Hut Concerts
The Wailin’ Jennys are taking a year-long break from touring beginning in mid-September. But founding member Ruth Moody will be hitting the road with her own four-member band during the break. Ruth enjoyed the Jennys’ 2008 and 2010 sold-out shows at the Lincoln so much that she’s returning to Mount Vernon at the beginning of her tour.
Ruth is familiar to Lincoln audiences as The Wailin’ Jennys’ soprano vocalist and multi-instrumentalist (playing guitar, banjo, accordion, bodhran), and as writer of some of the group’s best-known songs, including Beautiful Dawn, Glory Bound, and Storm Comin’, as well as the song that has become the Jennys’ iconic anthem, One Voice.
Ruth’s solo album, The Garden, was released in 2010 to widespread critical acclaim. One reviewer described the recording as “delightful, subtle . . . delicious and refreshing.” Another wrote that Moody “can paint musical pictures worthy of a museum. . . . She can bring you down when you're high and make you high when you're down and without you even realizing it.” The Garden was nominated for the 2011 Juno Award (the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy) for solo Roots & Traditional Album of the Year.
