In the Art Bar: Steinar Kristoffersen

As an artist, I try to choose subjects that inspire me and add life to the painting process. My hope is that the emotion and energy I experience while painting will be felt by the viewer. While my goal is always to create a beautiful image, I am equally interested in the traces of inspiration, emotion, struggle, resolution, and satisfaction that are revealed through physical brush strokes left on the canvass.
To me, a successful painting will catch the viewer's eye and draw them in to appreciate the brush strokes and details revealing the artist's choices that led to creating a convincing image. Although fine art prints provide beautiful images for decorating, a print can never embody the dimensions of expression contained in an original painting. I am satisfied when one of my paintings draws people in so they can appreciate the many dimensions of original art.
